Howard Fries, an Easy Expat International employee, honoured in Tajikistan for his contribution to the Rogun project
Easy Expat International is proud to highlight Howard Fries, one of its employees on assignment in Tajikistan, who received an official distinction from the Republic of Tajikistan on 25 August 2026 for his contribution to the Rogun Hydroelectric Project.
During an official ceremony, he was presented with the “State Medal of Meritorious Service” by President Emomali Rahmon, in recognition of his commitment to this major energy infrastructure project.
Recognised expertise in major infrastructure projects
Howard Fries is a geotechnical and Resident Engineer with more than 40 years of professional experience, including 25 years working primarily in Asia.
Throughout his career, he has contributed to major projects in hydropower, transport, heavy civil works and dam construction, with particular expertise in site supervision, quality control and geotechnical engineering.
A key role on the Rogun Dam project
On the Rogun Hydroelectric Project in Tajikistan, Howard Fries serves as Resident Dam Engineer and has also carried out the duties of Acting Chief Resident Engineer since February 2020.
His responsibilities include monitoring the construction of the rockfill dam, which is planned to reach a final height of 335 metres, verifying compliance with the project’s technical requirements, and overseeing the quality of materials and construction works.
He also contributes to the review of construction methods, technical specifications and testing performed as part of the project.
A distinction that also reflects a collective effort
Following the ceremony, Howard Fries emphasised that this distinction also reflects the dedication and contribution of the many teams, past and present, involved in the Rogun project.
The Rogun Hydroelectric Project is a strategic development for Tajikistan, supporting the country’s electricity generation capacity and its ambition to strengthen national energy independence.
